Blacks in Horror: Part 3

We hit the half way point in this list, but we’re still going strong! So let’s jump right into it.

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus

We decided to kick this part of the list off with a remake from our last list, Ganja and Hess. This film was actually funded through Kickstarter and was released in 2015. This one may hit a little different since it’s been updated a bit.

Us

The follow up to Jordan Peele’s Get Out follows a woman and her family going back to a traumatic location from her childhood. When they get to their vacation home that night, their son realizes “there’s a family in the driveway”. And let’s just say, they aren’t there to borrow a cup of sugar. And let’s not forget one of the scariest flips to a hip-hop classic ever.

The Serpent and the Rainbow

The Serpent and the Rainbow is another throwback sleeper. Wes Craven(Nightmare on Elm Street) directs the story based on the non-fiction title of the same name. The book chronicled the story of Clairvius Narcisse, a Haitian man allegedly poisoned, buried alive and turned into a zombie.

The People Under the Stairs

Wes Craven had a run in the horror genre for sure and this one was a part of his legacy as well. The People Under the stairs is a tale about that one house on the block that we’re not sure about. Well this time, we find out and it’s exactly what we expect.

Spell

Spell is another one that hasn’t dropped yet but is building up buzz for its end of the month release. Power’s Omari Hardwick is fighting ghost instead of fight as ghost. Okay, not really but it sounded good, right? Spell details a story of a man going to his mother’s funeral in a remote location but the plane crashes. Now he has to escape this place of voodoo and spell casting.

Make sure you check back tomorrow for the final part of the list! And hit up @dcomovieclub on social media for more great spooky season facts.
