Blacks in Horror: Part 2

Part 2, Day 2! We’re picking up right where we left off and giving you more films you can check out during spooky season that’s either for blacks, by blacks…or have black leads in them. So let’s get to it, shall we?

Candyman(1992)

Probably one of the more infamous stories from our childhood was the tale of Candyman. It seems like we were all scared of Candyman! And even if we didn’t think or know if he was real or not, we weren’t looking in the mirror and saying his name 3 times in a row to find out.

His House

Although it hasn’t been released at the time of this post, it played a part in the idea to put this list together. The Netflix film hits the platform on October 30, just in time for Halloween. This movie is a tale about a young Sudanese couple trying to settle down in a small English town with some evil secrets they are not prepared for. Lovecraft Country’s Wunmi Mosaku, stars next to Sope Dirisu and Matt Smith.

Ganja and Hess

Ganja and Hess is a 1973 experimental horror film by director Bill Gunn. The story follows Dr. Hess Green who gets stabbed by an ancient cursed dagger and becomes a vampire.

The Girl with All The Gifts

The Girl with all the Gifts takes place at an Army base in Britain where children are held captive and experimented on; splicing their DNA with Zombies. They attend school and have human thoughts but develop some unique skills. One girl in particular is much more advanced than her peers.She becomes the catalyst for hope to save humanity as they know it.

Kuso

This one may be a sleeper to some of y’all and that’s why we’re here. In the 2017 film, a devastating earthquake hits L.A. and shit gets crazy. Directed by Flying Lotus, starring Zack Fox, Hannibal Buress, Donnell Rawlings and more; there’s a good chance you’ll be entertained by this one.
