In the midst of COVID-19, unjust deaths and treatment of black people have been amplified more that ever. As a black owned business that feels the affects of these actions, it only feels right to help with the education of the black plight over history. Below is a list of black documentaries to help assist anyone who’s willing to learn about Black History.
Baltimore Rising
The HBO doc highlights stories surrounding Baltimore’s Uprising after the untimely death of Freddie Gray as he suffered life ending injuries in police custody.
Explained: The Racial Wealth Gap
A part of Netflix Docu-Series, The 15-minute episode breaks down the origins of how this wealth gap was created

Directed by Ava DuVernay, the Netflix documentary explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation’s prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans.
Time: The Kalief Browder Story
Now available on Netflix, the 6-part documentary focuses on the story of then, 16-year-old Kalief Browder. He spent three years in Rikers Island jail awaiting trial, two of those years in solitary confinement. He spent this time on Rikers for being arrested for allegedly stealing a backpack. The case was never prosecuted, the charges were ultimately dropped. Shortly upon his release, Browder committed suicide after his release.
Who Killed Malcolm X
Available on Netflix, The Fusion produced 6-part documentary deep dives into conspiracy theories of the assassination of civil rights leader Malcolm X. Historian Abdur-Rahman Muhammad dedicated his life into uncovering the details of this tragedy and some new and surprising information is uncovered along the way.
They’ve Gotta Have Us
The Netflix 3-part docu-series discusses the history of Blacks in film. The Array produced series chronicle black history in film from Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte, to the present day.
O.J. Made in America
The 5-part ESPN 30 for 30 Produced documentary highlights not just O.J. Simpson, but American culture prior to and leading up to his eventual not guilty verdict in the case of the double homicide of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman
